Halloween Homemade

Customization is on my mind today as we kick off the Scorpio season. The days of darkness approach, ushered in by Halloween and the Day of the Dead along with their ritual challenges: the need for costumes and altars.
We can crank up our creative juices and assemble sublimely personal and quirky concoctions. Or we can buy a costume at the store. Here’s how Bill S. describes it:
“As far back as I can remember Halloween was always my favorite time of year, second only to occasions where I would receive gifts. As much as I loved it, the act of picking out a costume was a guaranteed downer. Digging through heaping piles of plastic disasters only to end up with the oh-so unimpressive rubber band mask and painted plastic smock began my career as a costume maker.
"So it’s that time of year again and for all of you who have yet to pick out your costume, consider these many fine options of homemade splendor.”
Take a look at his terrific photo collection of costume ideas. Imaginative, funny, one-of-a-kind inventions.
Day of the Dead altars encourage that same individuality: a careful assembly of artifacts, relics and images rich with spiritual and emotional meaning to those who created them. See how extravagant a Dia de Los Muertos altar can get at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Imagine buying one of these at the store.
You don’t have to guess where this is going. We’re a company that pushes for personal expression and individuality. We leave store-bought formulas for others.
Send us your photos of costumes and altars. We want to see them and share!
