Alabama Homeboys

Among the Emmy nominees in one of this year's new multimedia categories - New Approaches to News and Documentary Programming: Documentaries - is the LA Times interactive project, Alabama Homeboys.

Many of us in Los Angeles are admirers of Father Greg Boyle, the founder of Homeboy Industries, a job-placement and education service that helps formerly gang-involved youth become contributing members of society. Each year, a group of LA Homeboys travels to a town in south Alabama called Pritchard, described by one homeboy as being, "like a Third World country."

We're impressed by how this excellent video and its supporting multimedia tells these Homeboys' story.
